The Seiko Prospex Black Series 2024 Collection Has Landed
Seiko has gained significant attention for certain recurring collections that generate considerable excitement. Among these are the well-received PADI editions, featuring designs inspired by the official colors of the PADI logo. Additionally, the Save the Ocean series has garnered praise for its commitment to supporting sea conservation organizations through proceeds. Another noteworthy collection is the Seiko Prospex Black Series, drawing inspiration from night diving and offering sleek, all-black coated models for a stealthy aesthetic.
Certainly, it's understandable that the various Seiko Prospex Black Series models can sometimes blend together. Being blackened sports and dive watches, they often share a similar aesthetic, with only subtle design distinctions setting them apart. However, in the previous year, Seiko introduced a unique touch by incorporating vibrant turquoise markings on the black backdrop. This distinctive hue makes a return in 2024, accompanying a new diver that shares its construction with the King Turtle model.

Seiko Prospex King Turtle Black Series 2024 SRPK43K1

For the initial introduction to Seiko's Black Series, the King Turtle, represented by reference SRPK43K1, receives its first-ever all-black makeover. This model, an enhanced iteration of Seiko's iconic Turtle watch, features a distinctive barrel-shaped case resembling a turtle shell. The timepiece boasts a 45mm width, 13.2mm height, and showcases its entire stainless steel structure coated in a resilient black super hard finish.

The bezel of the King Turtle watch is sleek in black, featuring a ceramic insert adorned with a 60-minute diving scale. Positioned beside the sapphire crystal glass, there is a magnifier enhancing the day-date window. This sets the King Turtle apart from the typical Turtle models, which commonly use Hardlex crystal. The dial is also black and showcases turquoise-colored markers and hands, all equipped with Lumibrite Pro for a luminous glow in the dark. The watch is powered by the reliable Calibre 4R36, providing a 41-hour power reserve for the hours, minutes, seconds, day, and date functions.

Seiko Prospex Solar Speedtimer Chronograph Black Series 2024 SSC923P1

In the previous year, Seiko introduced the reference SSC917P1 as a member of their Black Series collection. This solar-powered chronograph, fashioned after the Speedtimer model, featured a 39mm wide case with an all-black design and turquoise highlights on the dial. The recently unveiled Seiko Prospex Solar Speedtimer Chronograph Black Series 2024 SSC923P1 watch remains quite similar, boasting a slightly increased case size of 41.4mm. Additionally, the new model comes with a black nylon strap instead of the previously used metal bracelet.

It comes equipped with a curved sapphire crystal glass featuring an anti-reflective coating, a water resistance rating of 100 meters, and a black tachymeter bezel. The chronograph dial, adorned with black counters for running seconds, a 24-hour display, and a 60-minute chronograph, showcases a stylish gunmetal grey. These functionalities are driven by the V192 solar-powered quartz movement.

Seiko Prospex Sumo Diver Black Series 2024 SPB433J1 Limited Edition

The concluding addition to Seiko's 2024 Black Series lineup is the Limited Edition Sumo Diver SPB433J1. Recognized as one of Seiko's larger models, the Sumo perfectly complements the all-black aesthetic, effectively streamlining the substantial 45mm wide and 13.4mm tall case. Maintaining its signature features, the Sumo includes the prominent 4 o'clock screw-in crown, ensuring a water-resistant rating of 200 meters, along with sapphire crystal glass featuring AR treatment, and a unidirectional rotating diver's bezel.

For the first time, the Seiko Prospex Sumo incorporates vibrant 'Night Vision' green-blue markers on both the indexes and hands. These markers are applied with Lumibrite Pro, ensuring exceptional readability in low-light conditions. The traditional time-and-date display is driven by the 6R35 automatic winding movement, boasting a substantial 70-hour power reserve. To complement its features, the watch is finished with a black super hard-coated stainless steel bracelet and a folding buckle.
